I just read that a good way to keep mold away in your bathtub or shower is to put 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil in a spray bottle with water. Then just spray and it should help with mold problems. It smells great too.

Thanks! I love the smell of Tea Tree Oil!!

How about hanging some clothes to dry on a clothesline on a nice day.

Another fun green tip, would be to do more shopping on-line to save gas. Gas is so expensive and it is really easy to do some on-line shopping and it saves a lot of time too! When I do have to drive to go shopping I try to go to a lot of stores at once that are in the same area, it does save gas.

It is a good idea to have some meatless meals often. This is what I read regarding this:
"livestock farming produces huge amounts of Greenhouse gas emissions" we can reduce our carbon footprint by eating less meat. It also takes a lot of water to produce beef, much more then to produce grains or vegetables.

Another green tip would be to pass down baby equipment after your child does not need it anymore. Even baby clothes that do not get much use, so it is nice to pass it alone. Saves money for the new parents also.

Turn off the water when you’re not using it and put a low-flow cap on your sink faucet would help to save water.

Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) use less energy, generate less heat and last longer than other bulbs. Companies are starting to make so may different energy efficient bulbs now. I have them all over my house.

I like using lavender oil mixed with hot water when cleaning things...it removes blood from clothing and it disinfects a kid's bed when they have an accident and it also clears up the smell as well.

Gissele that sounds wonderful to use lavender oil with hot water for cleaning. I never knew that. I have a hard time getting blood out of clothing so I will have to try that, thanks!

In our house we use Avon's skin so soft for everything. From bath oil, skin moisturizer, insect repellent, flea prevention, and cleaning. Its a great product.. (and no I don't sell it but buy it)
We also save our newspaper for painting and crafts, save glass bottle and stuff them with neat things and give as gifts.
Darlene (01-17), Maryann D. (12-21)
I hear a lot about Avons Skin so Soft, it must be a super product to try.
Darlene (01-17)
We use the skin so soft as an insect repellent and if you have dogs, you can also spray it on them and it will keep bugs off them.

I just read about shower curtains.
It is best to get one with eco-friendly material instead of PVC which releases Volatile Organic compounds (this chemical turns into gases that pollute air and can cause serious health problems).
Darlene (01-17)

Maryann - great post. We switched to an EVA non PVC shower curtain liner and love it. It is flimsy, but we have a fabric curtain as well, so it works for us. We also have a rubber bath mat in the tub. Both products help to reduce the chemical smell that traditional bathroom items have.
The liner I bought was from amazon, I think 9.99.

Tootsie Roll - I also have the fabric curtain and I really like it too. I really could not stand the chemical smell of my other curtain. We do have to watch the chemicals that we are smelling!

Everyone should unplug any appliance that does not need to be connected full time. Did you know that 3/4 of the energy consumed by home appliances does occur when the appliances are plugged in but not being used.

A single plastic bag can take up to 1,000 years to break down. So it really pays to purchase the eco-friendly bags to reuse over and over. Also reusable waterbottles are great to have and use each day, some even come with water filters.
I also pay a lot of my bills on-line and do not get paper bills in the mail. This saves a lot of stamps and wasted paper too!![]()

Eco-Friendly Cookware is important to use! Aluminum, cast iron, or copper pots are best. The have the highest heat conductivity and will use your stove's heat more efficiently.![]()

Here are some Eco Friendly driving tips:
Plan your route when traveling, keep your vehicle maintained (keep tires properly inflated), maintain a regular rate of speed, make sure your vehicle is light in weight (remove anything heavy that is unnecessary), carpool, shop close to home, use public transportation, try not to idle too long.

I always close my blinds or verticals in all rooms in the summer when the sun is really bright. The house is a bit darker, but the A/C does not have to run as often. Also in the winter, I make sure all my blinds are open especially when it is sunny. I love the heat and sunlight and it really does warm a room!

Some helpful holiday green tips: Use brown grocery bags to wrap gifts (my daughter loves to decorate them). Newspapers or comics can make good wrapping paper also, use your imagination! If you do buy wrapping paper then make sure it is 50% post-consumer materials. You can make gift tags out of small left over pieces of wrapping paper.
Make some great homemake gifts, like cookies, cakes, chocolate, etc. Holiday Lights should be LED light bulbs.
Any other helpful holiday green tips?

I always try to buy energy efficient appliances. But you can also try running your dishwasher on low temperature or eco-saving mode (reduce heat). Make sure you have a full load so you do not have to run it so often. Skip the pre-wash cycle.

Good point, Maryann! About six months into moving to our new house, we replaced our dishwasher and washing machine with energy efficient ones, and we have noticed a difference in our water bill. We have saved between $15 and $20 on our water bill every quarter since replacing our appliances. We also got a $50 rebate from our electric company for buying an energy star washer. Totally worth the savings and benefits to the environment![]()

Switch from arousal cans to non-arousal cans.
How about using a reusable travel coffee mug instead of paper cups.
